Go To

Bart's webtoons from the season 13 episode "I Am Furious Yellow" gets adapted into a short film and is nominated for multiple awards including an Academy Award, but Bart keeps Homer away when Homer begins to hog the credit.

Tropes:

  • Animation Bump: In-Universe with the short that was originally the Angry Dad movie, which despite keeping the crude artwork, features shading and more fluid animation than the cheap and simplistic Flash style of the original web series.
  • Art Shift: All of the shorts featured are done in different art styles.
    • "The Brothers of Boville" is done in a style similar to Sylvain Chomet.
    • The Persepolis parody is in black and white.
    • "Condiments" is done in CGI
    • "Willis & Crumble" is done in stop motion claymation.
    • The titular "Angry Dad: The Movie" is a more refined version of the web series originally seen in "I Am Furious Yellow".
  • Celebrity Cameo: Sir Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Ricky Gervais, Russell Brand, Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott, Nick Park, and Halle Berry all make an appearancenote .
  • Celebrity Paradox: Ricky Gervais appears as himself, having previously played Charles Heathbar in Season 17's "Homer Simpson, This is Your Wife".
  • Comic-Book Time: The episode refers to the events of "I Am Furious (Yellow)," including the collapse of BetterThanTV.com due to the bursting of the tech bubble (at the end of the 90s), but Bart is, of course, no older.
  • Exact Words: When Itchy demands Old Scratchy's hat, Old Scratchy says he needs it to protect his head from the sun. Itchy cuts off Old Scratchy's head and takes the hat.
  • The Film of the Series: An In-Universe version, with the Angry Dad webtoon becoming a short film.
  • It's All About Me: Homer's mentality for all the awards for Angry Dad. Bart almost goes with this as well, until he brings up everyone else who helped make the film.
  • Latex Perfection: The "Itchy and Scratchy" short has the elderly male cat that was training Scratchy turn out to be Itchy's son in a rubber mask, robe and stilts. Although his blue feet appear in his first scene to give away the twist...
  • The Other Darrin: In-universe example, Angry Dad's former voice actor doesn't return for the movie, having ruined his voice from screaming when he found out he wasn't getting paid the first time around, so Homer fills in for the role.
  • Real Award, Fictional Character: Well, Fictional Movie anyway. The Angry Dad movie wins multiple awards. A Golden Globe, a Kennedy Center Honor, and an Academy Award.
  • Sequel Episode: The Season 13 "I Am Furious Yellow" ended with the internet company hosting "Angry Dad" shutting down. This episode reveals that the company's assets were bought up and the new owners want Bart to make a feature film out of it.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Special Guest: J.B. Smoove as DJ Kwanzaa and Maurice LaMarche as Sir Anthony Hopkins.
  • Take That!: Towards Roman Polański. After Homer calls Bart a "little Roman Polański", Marge calls him out on it. Confused, Homer asked what was wrong with being like Roman Polański, Marge then whispers into his ear and Homer goes "He WHAT?! You Monster!" and strangles Bart.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In-Universe, the Angry Dad movie was supposed to be a full length feature, but the test audiences didn't like it. Lisa then suggested to Bart that he could cut out the bad parts and turn it into a short film instead.
    • In-Universe, the studio initially wanted to hire Angry Dad's voice actor from the webtoon to reprise the role but he's too upset over not being paid for his previous work. Back in "I Am Furious Yellow", Bart asked what Homer felt about being played by John Goodman in an Angry Dad movie and Homer said "It should be Gary Oldman". Homer ends up getting the role.
