The blu ray set is no good in the USA. The reason they are so cheap is because the blue rays are for another country and wont play on my PS4. The first two seasons worked. Ive tried seasons 3,4,5,6 and they dont work. Bad product dont buy. BEWARE

Do not buy this! You most likely will only be able to watch the first two seasons! The other seasons are locked to region B meaning it will not play on most American Blu-ray players including the PS4 which I tried to use. Nowhere dose it state that on the store page.

I got this Mad Men Season 1-6 box set on DVD used some time back for a ridiculously low price here. Even with shipping costs (which were about 4 times, or maybe more, the actual item) it was a total bargain. I also experienced none of the playback issues using a multi-zone DVD player as the DVD zone was European.

That said it was a little bit silly that a box set of every season but the final two part season 7 was ever put out in the first place. Entire box sets usually come out once series' are over. This continues to be a very useful product to me personally since I bought season 7 separately later to have the whole series, but unless you'd find this season 1-6 set at such a low price that it would be cheaper to get it and then season 7 parts A and B separately, it would make a lot more sense to just buy the box set of the whole series, seasons 1-7.

For anybody who has a passing interest in the machinations of the advertising industry, this series is a must.

It is a portrayal of living the American Dream, manufactured by Don Draper and his teams of copywriters, graphic artists, photographers, film makers and account executives in the conservative 1950s and the 'liberal'1960s..

Add to that superb acting from all the cast, cool drama that never shouts at you how cleverly presented it is and superb visuals makes this absorbing television. There is an attention to detail, most obviously in the clothes, the cars and the decor of the offices and homes which enriches every scene.

I haven't had time to watch much of the box set but saw more of it when it was broadcast. So I shall be curious to see how the various characters lives evolve over a truly epic six seasons.

The advantage of having the box set is that is comes with a vast amount of documentaries which helps the viewer to put this wonderful TV drama in the context of the times it is set in.

Take your time to watch it all - there is an abundance of material to enjoy and absorb.

What can I say about Mad Men that has not been said before? I don't have Sky so had not seen it. Was advised by a friend and bought series 1 to try it out. Needless to say, I was hooked. I then bought series 2-6 and watched them back to back, taking no telephone calls and only loo, food and drink breaks for several days until I had watched the lot (and had square eyes). Series 7 part 1 also purchased and watched and have just pre-orded series 7 part 2 and have to wait until October.

For three weeks I lived through the times and story of Mad Men. I was quite fascinated by the reconstruccion of the decor, clothes, hairstyle, cars, etc. of the late fifties and then the sixties and I thought they did a good job. Also the insight into the advertisement world and the products of the time was very interesting. For all that I would have given five stars.
What I did not like too much were some of the main characters, above all Donald Draper, a totally homourless egocentric, alcoholic sexaddict. I found him quite a bore, with his perfect suits and haircut, his rather rigid face and limited emotional scope. I know that they drank more whiskey then and that people smoked a lot. But after pouring a thousand drinks and lighting a thousand cigarettes we got the message. Also the miss perfect character of his first wife, Betty, the cold and cliché way of treating their children especially their daughter, I would have hoped for a little more natural human expression. The family scenes did not come to life.
Also some relationships and sudden appearance and disappearance of characters did not make much sense.
And the main tendecies of the sixties were only shown very superficially. Younger people who have not lived through these times will certainly not understand what went on in that fascinating revolutionary decade. But they will have an impression of the hairsdos of that period.
I did watch it all, though by season 6 it started to become quite tedious and repetitive and I was happy when I had managed the last episode and could go on to more interesting pursuits.
On the whole though, it was worth seeing and disappearing into this world that many of us still remember in parts.
