The fourth season of NCIS begins with one of the investigators being charged with assassinating an Iranian prisoner. Former Mossad intelligence agent Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), who was introduced last season, has been framed, and there's only one man who can clear her name. Unfortunately, lead investigator Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) has retired to Mexico. But since Harmon is the star of the show, Gibbs returns to the United States to help out his colleague. While most of his former team is happy, Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) has mixed feelings (During Gibbs' absence, DiNozzo became the de facto head of the team, and going back to being Gibbs' underling doesn't sit well with the usually easygoing special agent.). Like William Petersen on CSI, Harmon is instrumental to the success of NCIS. Low-key and sarcastic, he injects humor and drama into a role that could've come off as dull. And while other cast members may come and go, his presence makes even some of the weaker storylines forgivable. In general, this season--which originally aired from 2006 to 2007--is full of well-developed plot lines that drive each episode along at a good pace. But there are some subplots that are trite: When agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) reveals that that book he's writing is based on his co-workers, it's not much of a reveal. Also, the serial-killer storyline in this season overstays its welcome by at least one episode. As NCIS director Jennifer Shepard, Lauren Holly makes a sometimes unlikable character come to life, especially when Shepard's motives are questionable. As the show's name suggests, the majority of crimes featured revolve around military personnel, but some of the show's best moments occur when they touch of the personal relationships between the characters. All 24 episodes are included in this six-disc box set, which also includes commentaries, a Q&A session with cast members answer fans' questions, and a surprisingly interesting look at the props used on the show. --Jae-Ha Kim

As good as you remember. Getting each season and enjoying all over again! (And again) 🥰 If you’re a first time viewer, solid characters with range of human quirkiness and histories as background running themes throughout each show. Favorite character has to be Abby! whose individual style and outlook shows intelligence and uniqueness can be fun. Guns, car chases, forensics, from back alleys to ballrooms, from office to battleships and submarines. Something for everyone. Great cast of characters, well written and acted. Get out the popcorn and settle in for some enjoyable binge entertainment!

NCIS was one of my favorite shows in its early years. I know it’s formulaic; but it was the Number One show on TV for many years because of it’s well developed characters & interesting storylines.

I live to watch the NCIS programs. I love them all. They make my life livable. I cannot imagine my life without NCIS! I love the original ones like these with TONY and Ziva. There is nothing better than these programs. They are beyond fantastic! IT's great for my blood pressure. I laugh so much until I cry.

Beautiful original cast - gotta love the OG cast! Hopefully this will be the beginning of Cote de Paloma's career

I dearly love law enforcement movies. They always get the bad guy. My dad was a chief of police and I have a nephew that followed in his footsteps that just retired as Chief of Police of Shively Police Department in Shivley, Kentucky. I have a great newphew that just finished the academy and is employed in Indiana as a cadet. I just really get into law, FBI, criminal minds, and as you know my favorite is NCIS with Mark Harmons team. I had collected all the seasons and couldn't find the 4th season and was telling this friend of mind. She knows how I am about purchasing on the internet. I have heard so many tells I just wouldn't never do it. She was telling me she orders from Amazon.Com all time and has never had a problem. I know she always tells me the truth. So, I got on there and ordered the 4th season, received it in like three days and didn't even have to pay shipping. (Lucky day) Then I received an e-mail from you and ask me if I wanted to pre order the 10th season so I did. It will be out this month. I really trust your company and love the way you keep us informed on the movies you know we like. As for Mark Harmon and his team, I don't know which one I like the best. It takes all of them to make it work and they are so good in the parts they play. I could talk all day about NCIS, I just don't have any negative thing to say about them. Thanks.

I really feel that in the forth season of NCIS, the team began to hit their stride because they'd had a year or so to gel as a dramatic unit with the addition of Ziva and the departure of Kate Todd after season two and the directors chair there got some brief stability with the addition of Lauren Holly as director Jenny Sheppard an often adversarial foil for Gibbs, perfected better in later years by Rocky Carroll. This is the season when favorite characters became more human to the audience unlike some police procedurals' where everyone is either a man of steel type incapable of emotion or a walled off gun touting bad ass chick who only talks through the trail of blood they leave on the floor. For example, Tony while on special assignment for Dir. Sheppard falls in love with the daughter of notorious arms dealer La Gran Wie conflicting his duty to the agency with his personal life...a real departure for playboy Tony. Tim Magee quits NCIS after his sister is accused in the murder of Navy sailor indicating that although he loves the agency something is more important than his job, which we may not have known before. Even tough as nails former Moussad assassin Ziva David displays her human side when she falls for a young man condemned to die after being poisoned. Without these character building moments that show genuine weakness alongside the tough bravado, NCIS would not be the success it is today.

Good show arrived quickly.

Season 4 of NCIS comes off as more a labyrinth than "The Season Of Secrets" as CBS promoted it. The main characters all seem to start in different areas--Gibbs in Mexico, Tony as Team Leader, Tim no longer the "Probie", Ziva being Ziva...but as the season rolls on, all the lines start coming together. Jethro's return from Mexico isn't exactly greeted by Jenny Sheppard, and Ducky Mallard's indifference to Gibbs is puzzling. Tony is in a serious relationship (Or is he?), and it's driving Ziva to distraction. Tim has suddenly come into money--lots of it, evidently. Abby is falling for a little person. Ducky's assistant Jimmy Palmer is finding himself in a hot affair with the new Probie.
And Jenny is running an off-the-books investigation that gets the Christians In Action (Initials, folks) upset at NCIS.
It's a complicated season where all the characters undergo some changes; mostly pleasant but some not. Mark Harmon brings Gibbs back from Mexico a little softer (Though not to the team)--enough to allow himself a relationship. Michael Weatherly gets to have Tony grow up--some--and have his well-known intrusiveness into his coworker's private lives flipped on him by Ziva. Cote De Pablo allows the Mossad liason to fall for an ill-fated nuclear inspector in "Dead Man Walking", but Ziva starts having "Tony issues" that don't slap her in the face until the end of the season. Pauley Perrette's Abby is as she ever is--the attempt to give up "Kaff-Pow!!" was classic. David McCallum's Ducky allows some hurt to show through in his relationship with Gibbs early in the year. Brian Dietzen and Liza Lapira's sequences in-and-around the morgue were wonderful asides, and made up for the missing "head slaps".
But Lauren Holly was most intriguing in this season. She took a character which some viewers considered cheesecake in Season 3, and gave her a very uneasy edge. The investigation of La Grenouille seemed legitimate, but as the season went on, Jen's personal stake--and what it could cost NCIS--became apparent. This led to Sheppard not being cast in a good light through much of the second half of the season.
This season also became a good spotlight for many of the recurring characters. Certainly key to the season were Susanna Thompson--Hollis Mann, the CID investigator who got Gibbs' attention--and Scottie Thompson as Jeanne Benoit, the doctor who made DiNozzo settle down. Joe Spano's usual visits as T.C. Fornell, the FBI agent/friend/rival to Jethro were a delight. But Muse Watson's Mike Franks--Gibbs' team leader when Jethro first joined the then-NIS--was a treat; an old-fashioned type who got things done not within the rules (Wonder where Jethro got that from?). We lose Jessica Steen's Paula Cassidy in "Grace Period", and that's a shame. But Armand Assante's was insidious and slick as "The Frog", and David Dayan Fisher's turn as Trent Kort--the CIA operative in with La Grenouille--is also notable.
In it's run, NCIS has always had an ongoing storyline that gets buried in the usual action--the identity of the terroist who infiltrated the MTAC in Season 1, the return of Ari leading to the two words ("Sorry, Caitlin") at the end of Season 2, and the uncovering of Jethro's life story in Season 3. Season 4 becomes about Jenny's investigation/obsession, and how it affects the whole office. It is an
interesting and ominous turn in the series. It does require the viewer to follow along closely, but in the end, all the main characters find themselves at the center of the puzzle.

5.0 out of 5 stars マンネリ化しないところが素晴らしい
Reviewed in Japan on July 4, 2011
