Overview

A "fairy tale for children of all ages" in the tradition of George MacDonald and C.S. Lewis. The Sword, the Garden, and the King is written by the man who has continued the legacy of Lewis and MacDonald into our generation with his own best-selling works of fiction. When fourteen-year old Matthew Robinson enters the world of the Forest of Pellanor, he and his brother and sister embark on an adventure that will require all the courage they can muster. The three do not know it, but all Pellanor has been waiting for them to rescue its creatures from a danger that threatens the forest families and the life they have known.

About the Author

Best-selling novelist Michael Phillips is the author of many beloved books and series. Some of his most well-known are Shenandoah Sisters, Carolina Cousins, The Secret of the Rose, and The Journals of Corrie Belle Hollister. Phillips has also dedicated his life to preserving and furthering the legacies of his two literary mentors, George MacDonald and C.S. Lewis. George MacDonald (1824-1905) is the Victorian Scottish author whose writings led C.S. Lewis to Christianity and whom Lewis called his spiritual "master." MacDonald's fantasies and fairy tales also provided the inspiration for Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia. Phillips is the man who brought the works of George MacDonald back into print in the 1980s. His edited and republished editions, as well as his biography of MacDonald, introduced a new generation of readers to the forgotten Scotsman. Through the years, Phillips' own writings have also earned him a place in a literary lineage that extends from MacDonald to C.S. Lewis and into the present generation. Many have compared Phillips' acclaimed afterlife fantasy Hell and Beyond to Lewis's The Great Divorce and MacDonald's Lilith. With The Sword, the Garden, and the King, Michael Phillips now takes his stand beside his predecessors with a memorable "fairy tale for children of all ages." It is sure to be read and savored by many who love the Narnian tales and MacDonald's Curdie stories and other fairy tales.
