A wartime Everyman's Library edition of the famous treatise on religion and Christianity by Sir Thomas Browne (1605-1682). Also included are other writings of Browne, including his "Christian Morals" and a glossary at rear of volume. The author was an intellectual and a physician who wrote on a wide variety of subjects. Includes an introduction by C. H. Herford. Entry 92 in the Everyman's Library Theology & Philosophy series, edited by Ernest Rhys. --- In EL binding style 3 with full blue cloth-covered boards and gilt-stamped spine titling; blindstamped Eric Ravilious-designed 'shell' to cover and brown topstain. Volume lacks the dust jacket. --- With prior owners' bookplate affixed to front paste-down, a few spots of soiling to cloth, and general age-toning to leaves, else a tightly-bound, unmarked copy.; 16mo (6 - 7 in. tall); xvi, [2], 296, 4 pages .
