A distracted Melbourne driver was t-boned by a tram after failing to give way at a busy intersection.
Dashcam footage shows the dark coloured hatch-back ignore the flashing lights warning motorists to give way to trams as it drove towards the North Melbourne roundabout moments before disaster.
The front of the small car can be seen smashing into the light rail carriage so hard it spins the vehicle 90 degrees into a pole.
But despite the obvious appearance of the approaching tram, social media users leapt to the defence of the motorist and instead blamed Victoria's complicated road system.

'That roundabout is the worst! I've never come across such a complicated intersection,' one Facebook user wrote.
'Those lights might seem obvious from this direction but to a car already on the roundabout not so much. Unusual roundabout design by typical Australian standards, bad design!' another said.
The bizarre roundabout has a tram line running through the centre of intersection, which social media commenters saying it's a notorious spot for crashes.
'Plenty of people at the market tell me they see crashes at this roundabout way too often. I often doubted them. Until now!' one person wrote.
Another said: 'I'm watching that thinking that as a non- Melbourne person.'
'Had it been me in that car I wouldn't have noticed those flashing signs.
'But they aren't in a position where a car already on the roundabout is going to easily see them... and once you're on a roundabout you don't expect to suddenly have to give way to a tram coming through the middle of it. Unless you are a local.'

Non-Melbourne viewers were aghast at the overly complicated roadway, poking fun at the state for their confusing traffic laws.
'And you wonder why the rest of Australia looks at Victorians as backwards! A tram through the middle of a roundabout,' one person joked.
'Whoever designed this intersection is at fault,' another said.
'They must have mates in the smash repair industry.'
