The episode opens with Blair and Serena sitting at a cafe in Paris. Blair urges her friend to decide whether she wants to be with Nate and Dan before returning to New York. She leaves to get ready for a date with Louis. Serena's phone rings. It's Lily, who informs her that police in Paris have pulled a body out of the river and found Chuck's wallet. Serena agrees to go and identify the body.

When Serena enters the morgue, the inspector accompanying her shows her the wallet and passport the police found. Serena confirms that they belong to Chuck. "No amount of time will ever make this okay," she says, before the inspector lifts off the sheet covering the body.

Meanwhile, Eva and Chuck are in bed together, but Chuck has to leave to go to work. On his way, a taxi drives past and stops suddenly. Blair is sitting in the back and the pair stare at each other, before she urges the taxi to carry on.

Later, Serena informs Blair that she had to visit the morgue because a body with Chuck's ID was found. She quickly tells Blair that the body was not Chuck, but explains that he is missing. "Consider him found," Blair replies nonchalantly. She claims that he is stalking her, saying: "Gossip Girl said I was in Paris - where else is he going to be?" She adds that he limped away. Serena is concerned, telling Blair that Chuck hasn't paid any bills for the Empire recently. She adds that there was blood on Chuck's wallet and they should check why he was limping. Blair refuses, explaining that she won't let Chuck ruin her date with Louis. "I can't talk to him," she says. "You don't know what it was like seeing him, even through a car window. The only thing wrong with Chuck is that I'm going to be happy without him."

Chuck is working in Eva's uncle's restaurant, and when she picks him up, he suggests they move to India. Back at their flat, Chuck produces some money. He explains that he has a small inheritance which will be enough to get them to London and then to Kerala. Eva goes to pack, but there is a knock at the door and Chuck discovers Serena, who found his address after speaking to Eva's uncle. She is thrilled to see him, but when Eva returns and asks who is at the door, Chuck tells Serena: "The man you are looking for is not here." He shuts the door, leaving Serena outside.

When Chuck leaves his apartment, Serena is waiting for him. She tells him that he shouldn't disappear just because people are angry, and explains that her mother is worried. "She'll come to welcome my absence," Chuck replies. "As will all the people who wanted me dead since I was born." Serena warns that he is about to lose everything he cared about, but Chuck says he already lost the only thing he cared about. Serena insists that he can't turn his back on who he is, but Chuck explains that he is picking up a passport with his new name. "From today, there will be no more Chuck Bass," he adds.

Blair is getting ready to meet Louis's parents at a ball after a successful date. "The fairytale is back on, as long as the evil queen doesn't ruin it," she says. Serena reveals that Chuck only wants to poison himself. Blair immediately asks if she has talked to Chuck but quickly decides that she doesn't want to know what he said. Serena agrees and tells her not to worry about Chuck. However, as Blair goes back to getting ready, a maid brings Serena an envelope. When she opens it, she discovers a note saying: "I'd rather have nothing than be Chuck Bass," along with the deeds for the Empire.

Later, Louis's driver arrives to escort Blair to Harry Winston to get some jewellery. At that moment, Blair gets a text from Serena saying that they need to talk about Chuck. Blair leaves her phone behind, as Serena calls from Chuck's flat, which is now empty. "Remember when I told you not to worry about Chuck?" she says. "I was wrong." Serena's phone then rings, and she picks it up quickly thinking it is Blair. However, it soon emerges that it is the inspector calling.

At Harry Winston, Blair notices a ring that she loves. Serena and the inspector enter, and the inspector explains that the ring belonged to Chuck and was one of the items stolen from him by the thieves. He reveals that the thieves tried to return the ring for cash and adds that when Chuck refused to let go of the ring, he was shot. Serena tells Blair that Chuck's stolen ring was meant for her and that he was going to propose. She adds that Chuck realises how much hurt he has caused and warns that he could disappear. Blair tells her to stop him if she cares so much, but Serena says only Blair can do that, adding that he almost died holding onto the ring. Blair says she can't forgive Chuck for sleeping with Jenny, but Serena points out that she never needs to talk to him after today. "I know you'll regret it if you do nothing and let him disappear," she adds.

The pair drive to the train station, and Blair runs past Eva, who is waiting outside. Serena follows and Eva realises she saw her before. Inside, Chuck and Blair meet and walk towards each other slowly. Blair points out that just because he is dressed poorly, it doesn't mean he's not Chuck Bass, but Chuck asks why he would want to be him. Blair says that he should have told her he got shot, adding that she would want to know if he was really hurt, whatever their problems. Chuck explains that when he woke up, no-one knew who he was and no-one was looking for him. "I realised I might be alive, but Chuck Bass doesn't have to be," he adds. Blair says that changing his name doesn't change him, but Chuck explains that it's a good start. He reveals that he wants to become a person that someone could love. "Someone did love you," Blair replies. "You owe it to her and everyone else you're leaving behind not to run away, which is what you're doing." She adds that the man Chuck wants to be would face up to what he did. Chuck admits that he destroyed the only thing he ever loved. Blair gives him the ring, tearfully telling him that she doesn't love him anymore but it takes more than him to destroy Blair Waldorf. He insists that her world would be easier if he didn't return and she replies: "That's true. But it wouldn't be my world without you in it."

Back in New York, Nate is filling Juliet in on his history with Serena. He shows her that Serena has sent him a text message but reveals that he hasn't responded. Juliet asks if he would like to get back with Serena and claims that he needs to eliminate the competition. Nate insists that Dan is not competition and might not even be interested in Serena, but Juliet points out that it might be too late by the time he finds out and offers to be his life coach for 24 hours.

Dan is in the loft singing to Milo when Juliet and Nate walk in. Juliet walks away with the baby and Nate asks if Dan has heard from Serena, but Dan admits that he hasn't spoken to her. Juliet calls Dan for help with Milo, and when he walks away, Nate checks Dan's phone. He discovers that Serena has sent the same text message to him. When Juliet walks in, she says: "It looks like Dan's playing a game with you. Do you want to win, or do you want to lose?"

Later, while Dan is asleep, Juliet tells Vanessa that she clicks with him. Vanessa replies: "We do. Or we did, before the thing with Serena." Juliet urges Nate to tell Vanessa something, before saying: "Dan made Nate promise not to tell, so you can't say anything, but he does have feelings for you. He told us himself." Nate looks uncomfortable with the lie but when Vanessa asks him, he tells her to "go for it". When Dan wakes up, Vanessa has put Milo down for a nap and made him some food. The pair admit that they have missed each other, and Dan tells Vanessa that he is grateful she has been there for him after everything he put her through. Vanessa tells Dan to stop talking. When he says he's not good at that, she replies: "I think I can help," and the pair kiss.

When Dan and Vanessa wake up after sleeping together, Vanessa jokes that she will have to thank Nate. When Dan asks why, Vanessa explains that she is glad Nate told her that Dan still had feelings for her. Milo starts crying, so Vanessa goes up to look after him, leaving Dan looking shocked.

Meanwhile, Juliet is searching for people Nate can date on the internet. She says that Dan should be unavailable and Nate should have someone on his arm so that Serena doesn't think he has been pining for her. Nate tells her that "not just any hot girl" will make Serena jealous. Juliet smiles, asking if he has a better option, but Nate gets a text from Dan saying: "I know what you told Vanessa."

Nate arrives at Dan's loft and asks if he can explain. He reveals that he thought Vanessa and Dan were connecting again and Dan agrees, but says that it doesn't give him the right to lie. He adds: "This is about Serena, isn't it?" Nate explains that he only said those things to Vanessa because Dan lied about not getting a text from Serena, but it soon emerges that Dan hadn't checked his phone. Nate explains he got the same message. Vanessa enters, and Dan explains Serena has contacted them. Vanessa realises that is why Nate said Dan had feelings for her and walks out, saying she was stupid to think Dan could put Serena behind him.

Later, Nate apologises to Dan. "The truth is, I don't know how I feel about Serena," he admits. "I just want a clear shot at finding out." Dan reveals that he was trying to work out how he felt when Georgina arrived. He adds that being with Vanessa felt good, explaining that their problems from last year feel small now.

The next day, Serena has returned to New York while Blair remains in Paris. Speaking on the phone, she admits that she still doesn't know whether to be with Nate or Dan. Meanwhile, Blair reveals that talking to Chuck made her realise what she wants.

Juliet apologises to Nate for interfering, while Dan and Vanessa are in the park together. Dan admits that he is glad everything happened and reveals that he didn't care when Gossip Girl reported that Serena had boarded a flight home. "All I could think about was making things right with you," he continues. "I want to be with you."

Still in Paris, Blair apologises to Louis for missing his parents' ball to attend to business. He invites her to another event but she admits that she can't live in a fairytale any longer. She explains that she has been using the romance to run away from her real life. When Louis asks if he will ever see her again, she suggests that he can find her and gives him her shoe. "That's worth a hell of a lot more than a glass slipper," she jokes. They kiss and Blair walks awkwardly away, before smiling at Louis and taking off her remaining shoe, walking out of the gallery barefoot.

Meanwhile, Rufus is still suspicious about Milo's paternity, but eventually decides it is more important to support Dan and spend time with his possible grandson. He joins Lily as she transforms Jenny's bedroom in the loft into a nursery and gets Dan's old crib out of storage. When Lily goes to cancel the crib she had ordered, Serena walks into the apartment. Lily explains that they have a surprise for her. Dan enters with Vanessa and they hold hands, as Serena looks on. They are followed by Nate and Juliet, who also take each others' hands. Rufus brings in Milo and Dan explains that he has a son. Serena asks for an explanation and Dan promises to give her one after he has fed his baby. Back in Paris, Blair gets a message from Gossip Girl that Serena is single. She texts her asking if she chose a partner, but Serena replies: "They chose first."

Nate and Juliet are chatting on the sofa, and Nate asks if Juliet's behaviour is all part of an act or if he has a shot at a date. Juliet replies that he is not ready for her because he is still in love with Serena. "When I am?" Nate asks, and Juliet replies that he knows where to find her.

Back at home, Lily is organising some items for Milo's baby book. Rufus is surprised when he picks up Milo's hospital bracelet and discovers his blood type is O negative. He adds that he knows Dan is AB positive. Lily points out that Georgina could be type O, but Rufus replies: "I'm sure she is. Just like the real father."

Juliet is speaking to someone on the phone in front of her corkboard of Gossip Girl items. "I had to improvise, but it's done," she tells the person on the phone. "We'll speak soon and talk about what's next. Take care. Hang in there. I miss you." She unpins items from the board but leaves up a picture of Serena in prison.

Meanwhile, Chuck and Eva meet in Paris. Eva admits that she thought Chuck had gone home with Blair. Chuck apologises, and explains that people where he is from lie, cheat and destroy anyone who gets in their way. He adds that she gave him hope of a new life, and explains that he intends to be a better person when he returns to New York. He asks her to come with him and reveals that she won't need a ticket as a car drives up. "I'm Chuck Bass," he says.
