CBS will continue to bank on the NCIS franchise next season.

On Thursday (March 31), CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl shared the huge news that NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawai'i have all received early renewals for next year.

This means the main NCIS show will be back for its 20th season, putting it only behind fellow procedural Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU as long-running dramas in US TV history.

Early renewals for the spin-offs mean NCIS: Los Angeles will be getting its 14th season, so it is not too far behind the original show. Plus, NCIS: Hawai'i will be back for its second season in the autumn.

CBS boss Kelly Kahl announced: "NCIS, one of the most popular and enduring series in the world, and fan favorite NCIS: Los Angeles have been hugely successful on the CBS schedule for years.

"With the strong new addition of NCIS: Hawai'i, we are able to expand the strength of this formidable franchise across our schedule. We couldn't be more excited to have all three talented casts and creative teams back to bring more compelling NCIS stories to viewers in the US and around the globe."

While the original NCIS's future has been confirmed, CBS has not clarified whether Mark Harmon will be making any appearances after signing off as a regular member. He remains an executive producer on NCIS.

All of the NCIS shows benefit from a shared universe that has a deep well of continuity. Earlier in March, NCIS's Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) headed to Hawai'i to investigate a case that saw them crossing paths with Special Agent Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and her team.

This crossover revealed that Torres and Tennant worked together in the past, though it didn't always go smoothly! We look forward to many more years of the two agents bumping heads while saving the country.

NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawaii air on CBS in the US.
