Ugly Betty confirmed for Netflix return in August

All four seasons of Ugly Betty are returning to Netflix next month.

The streamer confirmed the news on Twitter this week, writing: "All four seasons of Ugly Betty are coming to Netflix (in The US) — one week from today!"

The series was previously available on the US streaming service until 2015 before it found a new streaming home on Hulu – much to the disappointment of fans who are no doubt excited to see it back. In the UK, the show is available to stream via Disney+.

The former ABC series centres on Betty Suarez (played by America Ferrera) who defies stereotypes to become an assistant at Mode, a high-end fashion magazine. Despite initial challenges, Betty manages to win over her friends and adversaries within the fashion world.

Gaining applause from critics over its four seasons – running from 2006 to 2010 – Ugly Betty won multiple big awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Ferrera in 2007 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Most recently, Ferrera landed herself a role in the Barbie film, where her character Gloria comforts Margot Robbie's Barbie as she struggles with an existential crisis.

Barbie director Greta Gerwig revealed that the crew were "left in tears" by Ferrera's touching monologue about the complexities of being a woman.

She told The Atlantic: "When America was giving her beautiful speech, I was just sobbing, and then I looked around and I realized everybody's crying on the set."

Ferrera also opened up about the scene exclusively to Digital Spy, telling us earlier this month: "When I read the monologue in the script, I was very moved by it and it felt like the truth, it really hit.

"I was excited to get to give it. Greta and I spent months talking about it and preparing for it. I had a blast doing it, she gave me so much freedom to explore and try it a bunch of different ways and I loved it."

All four seasons of Ugly Betty premiere on Netflix US on August 1. In the UK, it's available to stream on Disney+. Barbie is in cinemas now.
