It may have been over two years since we last visited Wisteria Lane, but we've never truly got over the loss of our favourite bunch of Desperate Housewives.

Launching on October 3, 2004, March Cherry's comedy drama was an immediate smash hit when it first aired 10 years ago, hooking audiences in with its outrageous characters, soapy mysteries and glimpse behind the curtains of 'perfect' suburbia.

Teri Hatcher went from being a Bond Girl and Lois Lane to playing Wisteria Lane's unlucky in love Susan Meyer. Her on-off romance with the mysterious and rather handsome Mike Delfino (James Denton) was at the heart of the show for eight seasons.

Recently she's worked on DisneyToons movie Planes and was linked to taking part in I'm a Celebrity.

2. Felicity Huffman - Lynette Scavo

Huffman's role in Desperate Housewives was her first big TV commitment since playing Dana Whitaker for two seasons in Aaron Sorkin's Sports Night. In the show, her rocky relationship with Tom Scavo (Doug Savant) provided a solid cornerstone and one firm relationship in a show very fond of affairs and broken marriages.

She will be making her first big TV comeback since Housewives in the 2014-15 TV season, playing Barb Skokie in John Ridley's new series American Crime.

3. Marcia Cross - Bree Van de Kamp

Previously best known for her role on Melrose Place, Marcia Cross was the perfect casting as the seemingly perfect Bree Van de Kamp. However, she actually initially auditioned for the role of Mary Alice Young. Luckily, showrunner Marc Cherry felt that she would be better suited to the prim and proper Bree.

In 2014, she made a rare return to the small screen in the TV movie Fatrick.

4. Eva Longoria - Gabrielle Solis

The feisty and fiery Gabrielle Solis remains Eva Longoria's most famous small screen role. The former Young and the Restless soap star often stole the show as Gabrielle morphed across the series from a selfish cheat to one of the show's most sympathetic and most loved characters.

Since leaving the show, Longoria has teamed up with Housewives creator Marc Cherry again as an exec producer on the Lifetime series Devious Maids.

5. James Denton - Mike Delfino

To be honest, we're still not entirely sure we're over the demise of Mike in Desperate Housewives. It still feels too soon. Apologies for the mild spoilers, but you'll thank us later when it eases the pain. Heartbreaking doesn't even cover it.

James Denton has done plenty of TV cameos since the show ended, but his best work comes in the Band from TV. With Greg Grunberg on drums, Denton on guitar, Jesse Spencer on violin, Teri Hatcher singing and Hugh Laurie on keyboards, they have often teamed up to play charity shows. Best. Band. Ever.

6. Andrea Bowen - Julie Mayer

After playing the long-suffering daughter of Susan Mayer, Andrew Bowen has had a varied career that included roles in Scandal and Hawaii 5-0 and voiceover work in everything from Bambi II to Final Fantasy VII Advent Children.

7. Cody Kasch - Zach Young

Whatever happened to creepy Zach Young? Well, he's doing pretty well for himself actually with roles in Law & Order, Criminal Minds and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Side note: Our favourite Zach Young sub-plot involved the revelation that he had an extraordinarily large member. This proved that he couldn't have slept with Gabrielle, because she wouldn't have forgotten what her husband Carlos compared to a monster German wurst. Only in Desperate Housewives.

8. Ricardo Antonio Chavira - Carlos Solis

Ricardo went from playing the high-rolling Carlos to the ultimate movie - Piranha 3D!

He also starred in the short-lived three-episode run of NBC comedy Welcome To The Family, two episodes of the TV version of Bad Teacher and played a crime boss in Burn Notice.

9. Nicollette Sheridan - Edie Britt

Edie Britt can lay claim to having one of the greatest TV deaths of all time. Involving a car crash, electric wires and water, it left the viewer in no doubt that she most definitely died. That might have had something to do with what followed her departure from the show - a lengthy court case against showrunner Marc Cherry that still isn't totally finished four years on.
