‘Sex And The City’ Franchise Is Growing With A Reality Dating Show

Move aside, Carrie Bradshaw. A new reality dating series — based on Candace Bushnell‘s original Sex and the City book — is currently in development at Bunim/Murray Productions.

Titled Is There Still Sex in The City, the unscripted spinoff will document four friends who are navigating dating in their fifties. They want a “love do-over” and are ready to trade their city lives for a “dating utopia.” Bushnell will also be working on the upcoming series.

“They’ll live together in a cozy country chateau where they’ll have their pick of a different group of men in each episode. They’ll try the boy toys, sample a senior age player, be romanced by the rich guys and even get to flirt with their fantasy man. But in the end, who will really steal their hearts, and will our ladies be able to bring the sex back to the city?” according to the series logline obtained by Variety.

Bushnell published her critically acclaimed novel Sex and the City in 1966 featuring beloved character Carrie Bradshaw. Famously played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Bradshaw is largely based on the author’s life and her past column “Sex and the City” in the New York Observer. The book inspired six seasons of HBO’s Sex and the City, two blockbuster movies and the 2021 reboot And Just Like That, which will return for a third season.

“Fifty-something women (and above) are the hottest new dating demographic, and I should know, I am one of them,” the author penned in a statement, per Variety. “Over the decades, I’ve dated men of all ages and I’m so excited to be working on a show that combines my passion for relationships with the chance to help women, like me, navigate a love do-over.”

Bunim/Murray, a division of producer and distributor Banijay Americas, are planning to take Is There Still Sex in The City to potential buyers next month.

“We feel that Candace’s brand has grown with her audience and her expertise in the dating space is an incredible entry point for an immersive dating experiment,” added Bunim/Murray President Julie Pizzi in the statement. The company is also behind unscripted series like CBS’ Buddy Games, Paramount PARA +’s The Family Stallone and MTV’s The Challenge.

Bushnell, an international best-selling novelist, has also authored Four Blondes, Trading Up, Lipstick Jungle, One Fifth Avenue, and The Carrie Diaries. Lipstick Jungle and The Carrie Diaries became TV series on NBC and The CW, respectively.
