[Warning: Major spoilers from Thursday’s episode, “Into the Wild.”]
Now that Jeremy’s hunter’s mark is complete, the search for Silas can finally begin.
In the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries, Shane (David Alpay) brings the whole Mystic Falls gang to Nova Scotia (why not?) so they can finally get this show on the road. The season-long journey to obtaining this all-important cure has been a long one, and in “Into the Wild,” it seems as though they finally have the components in place. How soon before Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan (Paul Welsey), Rebekah (Claire Holt), Shane, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) are actually successful — or not? Who knows. (Season finale?)

So Shane hasn’t been telling Bonnie everything. Figures. It’s in Thursday’s installment that she realizes she’s tied to Shane and how dangerous expression magic can be — the same power she’s proven she can’t control. How serious? She could possibly die. Speaking of death, Caroline nearly crosses over to the other side, but the “human” in Klaus brings her back to life.
It’s also in this episode that Damon and Stefan’s opposing views on the cure — Stefan wants it to be human again, while Damon doesn’t, because being a vampire is awesome! — are solidified. Viewers have always known the Salvatore brothers don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things, and this is just the latest obstacle in their ever-evolving “brotherhood.” How did it all play out?
8:03 p.m.: It’s a road trip! Shane brings Damon, Jeremy, Stefan, Rebekah and Elena to Nova Scotia in search of the cure. Silas offers sunscreen to Damon, to which the Salvatore retorts: “Is that a joke?”
8:05 p.m.: Bonnie awkwardly takes photos of a shirtless Jeremy, with the full hunter’s mark displayed on his arms and chest. A lot of mythology talk is exchanged between the two, but the big question is: Are they getting close again?
8:06 p.m.: Meanwhile, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) remains confined — thanks to that spell that was put on him in last week’s episode — and Tyler (Michael Trevino) doles out his theory that if Klaus is killed, whatever happens to him only happens to him, and he debates how Klaus should die. Klaus, the conniving Original that he is, says he should drown, just like he did to Tyler’s mother. Ouch.

8:18 p.m.: Klaus calls it even with Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler, but they don’t. Hey, why not, but not before Klaus unexpectedly stakes Caroline. “Now that was definitely worth the calories,” Klaus says after taking some of Caroline’s blood.
8:20 p.m.: It was established that Rebekah despises the vampire life, but she reveals that little factoid to Stefan, who asks, “Why do you want to take [the cure]? Aren’t you the perfect vampire?” Rebekah responds: “It’s all an act, Stefan. Being a vampire is miserable. I’d give anything to be human.” It’s then established that Stefan feels the same way about vampirism; basically, he hates it, and taking the cure wouldn’t be for Elena, it’d be for himself. (See 8:47 p.m. for Damon’s take on the cure.)
8:22 p.m.: In an interesting twist, Shane reveals to Bonnie that his wife Caitin was a powerful witch who died using magic. What?! Bonnie freaks out, understandably, after she realizes Shane taught her the same expression magic that killed his wife.
8:28 p.m.: Tyler does the dumb thing and demands Klaus save Caroline. He says he’d do anything, including becoming Klaus’ slave (again), but Klaus has a few years on him and doesn’t fully buy it.
8:38 p.m.: Damon and Shane have a confrontation, and Damon rightly believes that Shane is readying his third massacre. That Damon is a smart one … This after it’s revealed that Shane’s wife was the one who informed him of what he’d have to do to get her back.

8:47 p.m.: In unrelated Shane news, Damon (finally) reveals to Elena that having the cure is not what he ultimately wants. The two continue to argue over their differing perspectives on what the cure would mean; Elena is so set on Damon sharing her outlook that it causes Damon to bolt. But not until after he has said some harsh words. “Be human with me,” she pleads with Damon. “That’s not me Elena, that’s Stefan,” Damon replies. “I can’t think of anything more miserable on earth.”
8:51 p.m.: “Oh my god, the tombstone’s gone!” Rebekah exclaims after rummaging through people’s bags for Silas’ headstone.
8:53 p.m.: Meanwhile, back in Mystic Falls, a dying Caroline tries a last-ditch attempt at getting Klaus to show his true colors — that there is an aspect to him that is human. “I’m a thousand years old, call it boredom,” Klaus deadpans. “Maybe it’s cause I’m pure evil and I can’t help myself.” Caroline, who tells him to his face that she knows he’s in love with her, ain’t buying it: “No, it’s because you’re hurt … which means there is a part of you that is human.” Here’s the real kicker: “I know anyone capable of love can be saved.” Sure enough, Klaus softens in time to spare Caroline.
8:56 p.m.: So Stefan and Rebekah teaming up was just the first step. With Shane, Jeremy and Bonnie in a forced “alliance,” Elena persuades Stefan and Rebekah that they all need to stick together. This should be interesting.
8:59 p.m.: Damon’s alone in the woods, and suddenly an arrow hits his arm. There’s someone else, another hunter, on the island … Who is it?
The Vampire Diaries airs 8 p.m. Thursdays on The CW.
