- DiNozzo Senior is found unconscious, in a car with a murdered naval officer in the trunk.
- On the waterfront in Washington, DC, two Metro cops find DiNozzo Sr., asleep, amnesic, and hung over at the wheel of a parked rented Rolls-Royce saloon; one of them finds a body inside the boot; the victim, wearing dress blues, was a Naval Reserve lieutenant and aviator but not on active duty; Gibbs and company investigate; at the scene they see who the suspect is, so Gibbs excuses Tony Jr. from the case. While talking in the chat room, Senior tells Gibbs about his relationship with the victim; an officer in the JAG Corps approaches the Gibbs team with useful information; Gibbs, McGee, Ziva, and Abby look under many rocks and talk with many people. Senior mentions a factoid to Gibbs, who offers a bit of advice; Gibbs, Duck, and Abby pursue and persist, then they produce and persuade. Tony, against orders, finds important evidence, then the gang figure out the whole thing and nab the bad guy and a helper. Gibbs, Senior, and Junior prepare for Thanksgiving.—DocRushing
- Open with local police finding a Rolls Royce near the docks. There is a drunk man passed out behind the steering wheel and a body in a Naval uniform stashed in the trunk. The man is Tony's father, DiNozzo Sr.
Since she's newer, Tony gives Ziva a huge stack of cold cases to input into the computer. She's not happy about it. Tony tells the others about his father standing him the night before for dinner. He's not surprised. Gibbs comes in and tells them they have a dead Naval lieutenant to investigate.
At the scene Tony is stunned to see his father there. Gibbs quickly tells Tony he can't be involved with the case.
The dead man is a millionaire real estate developer named Dean Massey. He's retired, but remains in the reserves so he can fly jets. He is divorced.
Gibbs interviews DiNozzo. He tells him he's in town to close a huge real estate development deal. DiNozzo found funding for the project and was due to receive a huge check. Massey was working on the deal with him and had threatened to screw DiNozzo out of his sizable finder's fee. He admits to Gibbs that he threatened to kill Massey. After leaving Massey's office last night he went to his hotel to do some drinking, meaning he has no alibi.
Ducky pulls some glass out of Massey's head. He tells Gibbs that Massey was killed between midnight and 2am, died elsewhere and was moved to the trunk. COD was blunt force trauma to the back of the head with a cylindrical object. Based on the blood test they know DiNozzo was very drunk at 2am last night and Ducky thinks it makes sense he'd have no memory of the evening.
Tony wants to talk to his father. Agent Dorneget is watching the door and has instructions to NOT let Tony in. Tony tries to bribe Dorneget with chocolate cake, then blackmails Dorneget with knowledge about Dorneget's behavior with another agent at the Halloween party, where Dorneget was dressed as Gibbs. His father tells him he honestly doesn't know if he killed Massey. DiNozzo said this was the "big one," a deal that could have provided for both of them. He had rented the Rolls to help seal the deal. Tony doesn't want his father to talk to anybody.
A JAG commander named Mosner stops by and tells the team she is prosecuting a case that may concern them. A pilot named Dennis was flying in formation with Massey. Dennis and his radio officer had to eject from the plane. The radio officer died. Dennis claimed the plane had electrical issues. The night before Massey told Mosner he had information Dennis's story was bogus.
Vance tells Gibbs he's leaning towards turning DiNozzo over to the FBI. Tony pops into the room and tells them about Mosner. Vance gives them 24 hours, but instructs Tony to stay away from the investigation.
Ziva and McGee are sent to Massey's office. There they speak with his company's lawyer, Hunt. He tells them that a strict interpretation of the contract with DiNozzo gave them the right to freeze-out him out, even though Hunt didn't want to do it. He shows them footage of the meeting, which ends with DiNozzo grabbing Massey by the throat.
Gibbs tells DiNozzo he's probably going to be transferred to a rough-looking detention center.
Gibbs meets with Dennis. Once they tell him about Massey going to Mosner he lawyers up.
Ziva meets with Massey's ex-wife. They weren't in contact any more, primarily because they didn't have kids. She made out well in the divorce and doesn't have any legal claim to his estate. She suggest Ziva go to his lawyer, Hunt, to find out who gets his money.
Abby and McGee sit in the Rolls. She's discovered that the car was driven far too many miles for DiNozzo's story that he went to the meeting and then straight to his hotel. Based on evidence she thinks Massey was killed with a bottle of vintage wine.
Hunt tells Ziva that all of Massey's money was in a trust that benefited the Navy and its charities.
Tony tries to wrestle a file away from McGee and get some information about his father's case. McGee tells him his father's room was clear. DiNozzo is going to wear an ankle tracker and stay at Gibbs' place to avoid a prison.
That night DiNozzo talks to Gibbs about his real estate deal. DiNozzo says he's surprised he doesn't remember anything, since he usually holds his liquor well. He was excited about finally being able to provide for Tony. Gibbs doesn't think Tony wants his money. Tony just wants his father.
DiNozzo provides Ducky with a urine sample for more testing.
Mosner stops by and says Dennis wants to make a deal about the plane crash. He was hot-dogging.
Massey's Porsche has been found on a back road of the development he was working on with DiNozzo.
Tony tries to get information about his father from Abby. He asks about the wine bottle.
McGee and Ziva find car tracks and a broken wine bottle near Massey's car.
Dorneget and DiNozzo, Sr. talk about father-son relationships. Tony stops by and asks whether he brought the "family bottle of wine" with him to D.C. It's an expensive bottle he purchased the year Tony was born and he'd planned to drink it with him to celebrate the deal. He tells Tony where he was going to take him, but isn't sure if he made it there or not.
Gibbs and Abby lay out the evidence to Vance, which includes Rolls tire tracks at the scene and DiNozzo Sr.'s fingerprints on a piece of the bottle. Vance tells Gibbs to "book him."
Gibbs tells DiNozzo the FBI is on the way. Tony is nowhere to be found and unreachable on his cell phone.
We see that Tony is at the pub where his father had planned to take him. The bartender remembers seeing his father the night before him. He thought it was unusual that two drinks put DiNozzo down like that and had planned to get a cab but an attractive woman he picked up took him home. Tony asks for his surveillance footage.
Just as DiNozzo is being led away Abby comes running. She's found that DiNozzo's fingerprints were only on the barrel of the wine bottle and the neck was wiped clean. Also evidence of Rohypnol, the date rape drug, was in his system. Tony calls in and emails them a photo of the woman his father left the bar with. McGee recognizes her from Massey's office.
It turns out to be Hunt's assistant Linda. She tells Gibbs that she'd been seeing Hunt and had talked about marriage. Hunt told her that Massey was going to try and shaft him as well, and asked her to erase the video of the conversation between Hunt and Massey. Hunt sees this happening and tries to run, but Gibbs grabs him.
Massey had found another lawyer to be the executor of his estate. This meant Hunt was going to lose seven figures in annual billing.
Tony stops by Gibbs' place and says his father stood him up again. He says that despite the way his father acts he really loves the guy, though he's never been able to tell him. DiNozzo pops his head out from the kitchen. He couldn't afford to stay at the hotel anymore and Gibbs offered him a room. He's going to stay in town for the Thanksgiving holiday to be with his son.
