- The team seeks justice for Carter's murder, but Finch realizes that one person may go too far in the battle against HR. Meanwhile, NYPD officer Patrick Simmons' number comes up.
- The team is grieving their team member's murder and Reese's serious wounding by Officer Patrick Simmons, who is on the run and wanted by the authorities. He is also being hunted by the Russians, who now feel betrayed by HR. Reese, who should be in the hospital and who may die if he doesn't receive proper medical attention, and Shaw decide to go rogue and go after Simmons individually through whichever HR members are still out there. Finch and Fusco are able to locate Shaw, who knows that they will not be able to do the same with Reese. The only person who may know where Simmons is is Quinn, who is being held in FBI custody at an unknown location. Shaw knows that there is one person who may be able to locate Reese through Quinn: Root. Finch has to decide if he can trust Root in order to save Reese. Others on the team may have their own ideas of how best to find Reese, and deal with both Quinn and Simmons if they can be located.—Huggo

- Reese is seriously wounded in a hospital bed monitored by devices at Finch's library. Finch attends Carter's funeral and later Root tells him that she wants to help him. Shaw is hunting Simmons down, while he buys a fake passport to flee to Canada from three men. Reese leaves the bed and hits the car of the men with a truck to know the whereabouts of Simmons. They do not know and Reese leaves them in the burning car. Fusco brings Finch to see the scene and tells him that the forger's name is York. However, Shaw has found York and is torturing in a storehouse when Fusco and Finch arrive. She tells them that Reese has found York first and broken his legs. Finch tells her that Reese needs medical treatment. Shaw says that they need to find Quinn's lawyer, Jimmy Ransone, first. Fusco and Shaw find Ransone dead, and they learn in the surveillance tape that Reese had interrogated but did not kill him, but the Russian mobsters did. They conclude that Reese and the Russians know where Quinn is hidden, and Shaw believes they need Root's help. Finch reluctantly agrees and Shaw, Fusco, Root and Finch head to Quinn's hideout in a hotel secured by heavily armed Federal Marshals under the command of Marshal Pollack. When the Russians arrive, Root uses two pistols to get rid of them. But Reese arrives first and forces Quinn to write the location of Simmons. However, Fusco avoids that Reese kills Quinn, and Finch and Shaw take him to medical attention. Fusco finds the note with Simmons' whereabouts and heads to meet the killer in the airport outside a hangar. Their showdown will begin.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Finch visits Reese in the hospital, then attends Carter's funeral. There is a manhunt for Simmons and Shaw is doing her part to try and flush him out.
Simmons (Robert John Burke) purchases a fake Canadian passport, followed by Reese ambushing the men he bought it from.
Flashback to 2010: Finch talks to a therapist. The discussion is about grief and its purpose. He said he'd been considering something "radical" to honor a memory and she advises against it. She thinks he's dealing with survivor's guilt, but he counters that what has happened is, in fact, his fault.
Root tells Finch that "whatever your machine was trying to prepare me for, it's coming." She offers yet again to help him, saying that it's not too late for Reese.
Fusco brings Finch to the scene of where Reese attacked the men who sold Simmons the ID. It's clear that Finch has lost touch with both Reese and Shaw. Fusco tells Finch that this plan of attack will only make Simmons tougher to find. The men were part of a counterfeit operation run by someone named York.
Shaw has found York. Fusco and Finch arrive and she tells them that Reese roughed the guy up pretty good looking for information. Reese tells Shaw that Reese's injuries are life-threatening so they must find him. Shaw says the only way to find Reese at this point is to find Simmons. In order to do this, Finch thinks they need to find Quinn's lawyer, Jimmy Ransone.
Shaw and Fusco find Ransone dead in his office. Using the office security video they learn that some Russians showed up after Reese was there to question Ransone. This means both Reese and the Russians know the location of Quinn. Shaw thinks they need Root's assistance.
Flashback to 2005 when Shaw was a medical resident undergoing a performance review. She's questioned about an incident where she told a family its father had died while she was eating a candy bar. The person questioning her says that she has a great mind, but will never be a doctor because she lacks empathy.
Finch finally agrees with Shaw that they must bring in Root.
With Root and the machine leading the way, Finch, Fusco and Shaw arrive at the hotel where Quinn (Clarke Peters) is being guarded by a cadre of Federal Marshals led by Pollack (Richard Brooks).
Flashback to 2007 Reese being questioned by a CIA training agent. It turns out Reese was there undercover, trying to determine who had been selling the names of other CIA agents to the Chinese. Reese kills the man and seems very matter-of-fact about the whole operation.
A wounded and sluggish Reeses arrive at the hotel. He's able to make his way through all of the agents and get alone with Quinn. He tells Quinn that he's going to kill him in three minutes, and how forthcoming he is about Simmons' plans will determine how painful the last moments of his life will be.
The Russians arrive at the gate and Root, borrowing two pistols from Fusco and Shaw, singled-handedly keeps them at bay.
Finch arrives just before Reese is going to kill Quinn. He emphasizes how much time and effort Carter put towards putting Quinn in jail and that she wouldn't want him to take the easy way out. Reese ends up pulling the trigger anyway, but the gun is empty. Fusco says he'll make sure Quinn gets back to custody, while Finch and Shaw bring Reese to get medical attention. Fusco reaches down and sees the information Quinn provided about Simmons.
Flashback to 2005 Fusco meets with a police counselor about a recent on-the-job shooting. It was considered a "good kill," but the man talks to Fusco about any feelings of guilt he might have. Fusco dances with the counselor a bit then admits that the shooting wasn't a good one, because he had targeted the guy for having killed another officer years ago. And Fusco says it doesn't bother him one bit.
At an airfield Simmons prepares to board a plane out of the country. Fusco catches him just outside the hangar and the two fight. Fusco gets the better of things and Simmons ends up on the ground bleeding. Simmons tells him to "get it over with." But Fusco talks about all the good Carter did and that she believed in him. He says he doesn't want to throw away all of Carter's good work and places Simmons under arrest.
Fusco bring Simmons into the police station in cuffs, parading him before the other officers.
Finch and Shaw stand next to Reese, who it appears is going to make it. Finch walks to the library and sees that Root has returned. She says they have a larger fight coming and thinks they should be together. He closes the door.
At his hospital room, Simmons regains consciousness to find Elias (Enrico Colantoni) sitting at the foot of his bed. Elias calmly informs him that there is a debt to be paid and watches as Scarface (David Valcin) comes from the shadows to garrote Simmons.
