- Arizona's bad day escalates when she advises a patient on a potential double amputation; Derek breaks a promise; Stephanie and Jo find an abandoned baby; the nonfraternization rule leads to a suspension.
- Sofia spilled fruit juice on Arizona's synthetic leg and Arizona is worried it won't work anymore. Meanwhile, Callie has found Arizona's wheelie sneakers in a box and Arizona asks her to throw them out. At the hospital, April and Hunt are trying to save a man with a bad head injury but can't.
Jared, a boy who is looking at possible liver failure, takes interest in Arizona's leg, asking her if she's "a robot." Arizona plays along about it and nods playfully when he asks if she can jump super high.
Hunt comes over and tells Alex he's suspended for three days for violating the new policy (but, really, for "giving the board the finger") and he reassigns Jo to the ER instead of pediatrics. Arizona sarcastically thanks Hunt for making her day. Arizona, too, has to talk to HR because Leah was the one who filed the harassment complaint.
Callie seems worried that Derek is losing momentum on their brain mapping project because of his new project for the White House.
Cristina tells Webber she doesn't think Shane should be on her service, admitting their shenanigans, but Webber says it's his call and this is how it's going to be.
Jo finds Stephanie outside and apologizes for what she said before. Stephanie wonders what she was to Jackson that whole time if he could just toss her out like garbage. While saying this, she kicks a box and baby starts crying. We next see Arizona looking over the baby, which she thinks is about 8 months old and has a surgical scar on his chest. She wants Jo to call the cops, get fingerprints and they're going to find out who the little guy is. She's smiling as she walks away, but Stephanie accidentally rolls a gurney into Arizona's lath and she does a full flip over it and crashes to the ground. Her artificial leg appears to be broken, but she tells Stephanie not to worry -- she has another one in her car.
Bailey and Hunt come to check on Arizona, who insists she is fine. Callie shows up and sends everyone else away. Arizona is bummed she has to use her "old beater leg" until her better one is fixed. She then mentions to Callie that she has to talk to HR because Leah was the resident who complained. Callie seems upset, makes sure Arizona is OK, then leaves.
Jo complains to Hunt for pulling her on pediatrics, but he says she needs a well-rounded education so she's on trauma. He points her to Donald Mercer, the man with the head injury. He is an organ donor and they're waiting for the diagnosis of brain death. Once that's in, she will assist in getting the organs -- it's "like six surgeries in one," she says happily. "Trauma's not so bad now, is it?" Hunt replies.
A man comes to Hunt and April and tells them he donated a kidney to Donald. He's wondering if he can get it back.
Derek seems to be having trouble settling into his new office and his video communication with his boss in D.C., Lloyd. Lloyd is insisting that Derek no longer use his brain sensors for any work outside his White House project. Derek knows Callie isn't going to like that, and he doesn't, either.
Cristina is checking out the baby when Arizona comes over and suggests someone cuddle him. Cristina is annoyed, wanting to get on with her tests, but when Shane arrives she tells him to hold the baby because Arizona is right about the cuddling and she (Cristina) doesn't want to do it.
Stephanie and Jackson end up in the same elevator. After an initial silence Jackson asks about the baby Stephanie found and she uses the opportunity to say it probably feels traumatized after having been left, abandoned, dumped in the trash. Jackson tries to talk with her but she tells him to get out of her way and she walks out.
Alex asks Meredith to talk to Hunt about letting him operate on Jared because he wants to make sure it's done right. Through it all, he reminds her she's a hypocrite.
Meredith shares some gossip with Cristina about Hunt's girlfriend leaving and that it didn't seem like it was her idea. Meredith can't tell by Cristina's reaction whether she's happy or upset by the news, and Cristina says she can't tell, either.
Alyssa, a young girl, is yelling at her father Herb. She doesn't want another surgery or more pain in her legs. She asks Callie and Arizona to just cut her legs off and give her the fake ones so she can do things she wants to do. Callie shows Alyssa pictures of herself since she was a baby, getting her legs to work right. Callie asks Arizona to back her up, but Arizona says she's "not so sure" it's going to work.
Callie and Arizona continue arguing about Alyssa and how Arizona didn't back Callie up.
Cristina is checking out the baby's heart and she prods Shane into offering some theories. He does and when they realize the baby had a congenital heart defect, he was probably left because someone thought "he was more trouble than he's worth."
Alex finds Jo in Donald's room and she jokes that she's going to make Donald's organs come out so smoothly that they're be able to use his appendix. This gives Alex an idea about Jared that might save them from cutting a hole in his stomach.
April is trying to explain to the man who wants his kidney back why it's a bad idea.
Alex comes to Arizona with the suggestion of using Jared's appendix to reduce complications and make a smaller hole in Jared's stomach. Arizona thinks it's a good idea. Alex wants to get prepped, but Arizona says he can't operate.
Cristina finds Hunt and chides him for leaving his girlfriend, asking why he'd throw that relationship away. He turns it on her and asks why she seems so upset about it. She leaves, playfully, without answering.
Arizona is stopped in the hallway by Herb, Alyssa's dad, who asks her how she could possibly suggest that he let his daughter cut her legs off. He says she'll be teased and be "crippled, handicapped, whatever you call it." Arizona raises her pant leg, surprising him. He says he never noticed it before. She says she never thought she could carry her daughter or be a doctor again, and now there are very few things she can't do. She tells him Alyssa's condition is severe and the pain will never stop. He worries about making the wrong decision, and Arizona reassures him.
Stephanie rolls a new ER patient in and the paramedic asks if she's done any more "bowling for doctors," and suggests she go for April next. Suddenly, Jackson steps in front of the gurney Stephanie is rolling, and it knocks him over. The paramedic looks over at Jackson and tells Stephanie, "That'll work, too."
Jackson limps to a bed to get checked and he and April seem to suspect Stephanie did it on purpose. Stephanie is annoyed by this, but as she walks back through the ER, the nurses applaud her.
Meredith goes to talk to Hunt about Alex. Arizona comes over an Hunt reminds her HR needs to talk to her. Arizona tells Bailey to get it started and she'll get there when she's done. Meredith makes the case for Alex, but Hunt insists that Alex is suspended and he asks Meredith to do the surgery.
Meredith goes to Derek and asks her to tell Alex that she stole his surgery. Derek says he has to tell Callie that the White House won't let him use his sensors for their project. Meredith jokes that Derek should just tell Callie he made her a promise but has to break it because of a new project that came along, adding, "it worked when you told me."
April and Jackson talk briefly about Stephanie, and wonder again whether she hit Jackson with the gurney on purpose. April asks him to talk to Stephanie and apologize for both of them. The kidney guy then surprises her and asks again about his kidney. Hunt is passing by and April pulls him in on the conversation. They try blow him off by faking having received urgent pages.
Caliie and Arizona argue again about Alyssa's proposed amputation. The HR rep comes over to talk to Arizona. On her way there, she sees Leah in another room.
The baby is crashing for a moment, but Shane saves him. Cristina praises him.
Derek breaks the news to Callie about the sensors and she gets upset, realizing that Derek is taking his ball and going to play with his new friends. She walks out.
After a couple of questions about Leah drilling through Callie's patient's leg, and whether Arizona had any romantic involvement with Leah after that, Arizona gets an emergency page and says she has to go. The HR rep says she doesn't need anything else, anyway, and Arizona is surprised. She thinks that if she's being accused of something she should have more of a chance to defend herself, but the HR rep tells her Leah didn't lodge the complaint against her.
Arizona gets back to the O.R. and gets an update on the baby, who Cristina is now calling "Oscar." Arizona tells Cristina that Leah's complaint is against Callie. Arizona then realizes that the baby got the name "Oscar" from Cristina because Stephanie found him in a trash can.
Arizona is paged to Alyssa's room, where Callie is waiting. She tells Arizona that Herb and Alyssa asked for her. In the room, Herb asks Arizona again about amputation being the right idea. Arizona says she thinks it's right and that Callie has done everything possible to stop Alyssa's pain. Callie agrees it's not working. Herb asks them to schedule a double amputation and says, "I want her pain to stop today." Outside the room, Callie tells Arizona, annoyed, "it's just one more thing today."
Arizona tells Callie that Leah's complaint is against her. She asked HR if she could tell her first. Callie is upset, saying she "can't take any more of this," referencing the malpractice suit she just got through and now having to deal with Arizona's "jealous ex-girlfriend" trying to ruin her reputation.
Cristina and Shane operate on "Oscar," and Cristina asks Shane about the complaint and whether he ever felt compromised. He says he didn't. She tells him he's too good of a doctor to be trying to do things to curry favor. She say he'll be great in 10 years and he says he might not even be a doctor in 10 years. She tells him he'd better be.
In the gallery observing Bailey and Meredith's operation on Jared, Jo gives Stephanie a fist bump when she learns that Stephanie hit Jackson with a gurney. Stephanie smiles about it a bit. Jo leaves with an emergency page and Alex steps into the gallery, making Meredith panic a little when she spots him.
Leah shows up in the O.R. after Arizona asks for a resident, but Arizona says she can do the procedure herself. She and Leah argue about what Leah is doing with her complaint, but Leah says Arizona was the one who brought their relationship into the hospital. She says Callie chose not to teach her in a moment that put a patient in danger. She tells Arizona that she was thinking about herself in telling Callie, and it put a patient in danger. Leah it wasn't fair and shouldn't happen to her or anyone again.
We next see Arizona walking Leah through the amputation. She tells Leah she's going to do the other leg herself.
Alex comes and checks on Jared, telling him he looks great. Alex walks out of the room and tells Meredith she didn't exactly have his back by stealing his surgery. She effectively tells him to get over it, then tells him she got a "love contract" from HR that can get Alex and Jo out of the sexual conduct policy if they both sign it. Alex says he can't do that. He already freaked Jo out by asking her to marry him and he doesn't want to throw her journey toward becoming a surgeon off course. He says she's going to leave him if the hospital keeps messing with their relationship.
Cristina makes a final check on Oscar and asks the nurse to make sure that Shane's name is on the records, because in 10 years the baby's new parents will have questions and she wants Shane to be able to answer them.
The kidney guy confronts April again, but Jo comes over and tells April that Donald's heart failed and the organ transfer is called off. Tom, the kidney guy, hears this and is stunned. He starts crying, and says they'd been best friends since seventh grade and he was supposed to have saved Donald's life. April hugs Tom and sits him down.
Cristina and Arizona talk in the lounge about their day. Arizona wonders about what kind of life "Oscar" will have because he was found. Cristina asks Arizona if she still has "dreams about it," and they talk about the plane crash. Arizona says she does. Cristina says she dreams about Arizona's screaming and thanks her for that. They hold hands and Arizona tells Cristina, "Good work today."
The HR rep brings Jackson into a room to fill out his accident report -- Stephanie happens to be in the same room doing her own report. Jackson offers to wait, but Stephanie says she's almost done. He comes in and they talk. She says she didn't see him coming. Jackson tells her he's "so sorry," and "had no idea" he was going to do speak up at April's wedding. He says he had convinced himself that he didn't want April and that she didn't want him. He insists he didn't want to hurt her. She says he can't make it better. She decides that she's not going to be sad or angry anymore, because she's not going to care about him anymore. She gets up and leaves.
Callie gets him and Arizona asks how it went. Callie starts to go to bed and Arizona points out that Leah is right. Callie gets upset again and acknowledges that she knows Leah is right and that she became petty and jealous after Arizona slept with Leah. Callie says she's not sure she and Arizona "will ever be OK." She gets even more annoyed when Arizona starts to apologize again, but Arizona goes on about how she's been thinking only about herself for a year, since the accident. She says she's finally starting to feel like she knows who she is, and that she's had to give up some things. She says she doesn't need much, but she knows she needs Callie and Sophia, and she's afraid that now that she's finally figured it out she's already made Callie give up on her. Callie leaves the room and Arizona cries, but Callie comes back with Arizona's wheelie sneakers. She starts to put them on Arizona and says, "You shouldn't have to give up anything."
Cristina finds Hunt outside the hospital at the end of the night and tells him she's upset because his girlfriend was everything he wanted and she wants him to be happy. He asks if that's true or if she just wants to see him get what he wants so she doesn't have to feel guilty about not giving it to him.
We see Callie showing Arizona how to skate on her wheelie sneakers again.
