- Reese's cover job as an NYPD detective becomes complicated when the young brother and sister he's protecting become targets of a gang investigation.
- The next numbers the Machine provides are for fourteen-year-old Malcolm Booker, and his eight-year-old sister, Tracie Booker, who are in foster care as their mother is incarcerated on a conviction for illegal firearms possession. Reese, who is tasked with finding them, quickly learns that they are the intended targets, as they stole $500,000 in drug money from the Brotherhood, a gang led by the unknown Dominic. Reese knows of the Brotherhood because he helped put in jail one of the gang's higher ups, Link, who is now out. The DEA is interested in the case, their head agent being Erica Lennox, who decides to work in conjunction with Reese as she knows there is a mole in the DEA working for the Brotherhood. When Reese and Lennox eventually find Malcolm and Tracie, they learn the reason why they stole the money. However, Malcolm has hidden the money and refuses to give it back. Reese and Lennox have to try and protect Malcolm and Tracie from the Brotherhood, all the while trying to get them to give up the money wherever Malcolm has it hidden, and discover the identity of the DEA mole. Shaw may be able to assist as she has one of the injured Brotherhood members, Mini, in unofficial custody; he who may buckle under the pressure of being in the gang. Meanwhile, Elias, who helps them stave off the angry Armenians in this drug war, can see that something in Finch and Reese's life has changed and he tries to find out exactly what has happened.—Huggo
- The Machine delivers the numbers of the black siblings Tracy, who is eight years old, and his teenage brother Malcolm Booker. Their father is dead and their mother is in jail for possession of illegal weapon, and they are in separated foster homes. Reese notes that they did not go to school and remakes their steps. He stumbles upon a crime scene where he meets the narcotic Detective Erica Lennox. She tells him that it was a war between the Brotherhood and the Armenian mobsters, and they are all dead. They find a large quantity of heroine, but no money. Meanwhile, Finch finds them buying expensive clothes for his sister and him. They conclude that the children are in danger since they have stolen the money and both the Brotherhood and the Armenians are hunting them down. Det. Lennox team-up with Reese and discloses that there is a mole in the Narcotics Department while Shaw finds a way to protect Reese.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- We open with a deal of some kind turning bad. We hear Armenians are involved.
The new number is 8-year old Tracy Booker, along with her teenage brother Malcolm. Their mother is in jail and the father is dead. They are in the foster system. Neither of the kids are in school that day.
Reese learns that Malcolm walked Tracy to school each day and that the route went right by the crime scene from the opening. It was a shootout involving the Brotherhood and the Armenians. All but two were killed. The DEA agent at the scene tells Reese that they found a huge bag of heroin but no cash. Whoever has it will be a huge target of organized crime.
At the same time Finch sees Malcolm and Tracy buying new clothes. They found the drug money. Malcolm is able to lose Finch by using some of the cash to create a diversion.
Finch meets with Elias and asks him for help giving Reese extra time to find the kids. He says he'll help with the Armenians. He can't do much with the Brotherhood and their elusive leader, Dominic.
Fusco's upset that Reese involved them in the drug deal homicides. He says Brotherhood lieutenant Lincoln has gotten an underage soldier to confess for him.
The DEA agent Lennox, whom Reese dealt with at the crime scene, tells him the agency suspects the Brotherhood has a mole in their department. She has filed for a warrant to gain access to the cell phone Malcolm and Tracy were spotted purchasing. Finch isn't sure they have time to wait for the warrant, telling Reese he's working on it himself.
Shaw gets one of the Brotherhood soldiers, Mini, to tell her where Lincoln will be.
Finch tracks the kids near a law office. We see the Brotherhood find them in the parking lot. They open fire but the kids get away with some help from Shaw.
Reese and Lennox grab the kids in another part of the parking lot. To get off the street they bring them to an apartment where Reese worked a case. Tracy says they took the money to get their mother back. Malcolm blames their mother's boyfriend for her charge, which was related to weapons. Malcolm thinks if they get an elite lawyer they'll get her out. They bought new clothes to impress the potential lawyer. Lennox takes the bag but sees it's empty; the kids have stashed it somewhere else.
Finch thinks they need to talk to Dominic. Shaw's plan is to have Mini take her to him.
Reese convinces Malcolm to tell him where they hid the money. It's the only way to get full DEA protection. Lennox leaves the apartment to make a sweep of the building.
Shaw promises Mini that if he tells her Dominic's location she'll get him medical attention. Mini isn't budging.
Fusco calls Reese with what could be Dominic's number. It was called from the scene of the crime. Fusco calls it and it rings in Tracy's hand. Lennox gave it to her, meaning she is the Brotherhood's mole. Reese looks out the window and sees Brotherhood gangsters walking into the building.
Finch tells Reese that Fusco's eight minutes away. Reese will need to hold the Brotherhood off until then. Lennox hasn't contacted the Brotherhood, meaning she may be double-crossing them as well and going after the money.
Shaw tells Finch she thinks Mini's mad enough that nobody came after him that he just might go after Dominic and lead her to the gang's leader.
Reese buys him and the kids some time by rigging the elevator with tear gas. Malcolm confesses that the gun that got his mother in trouble was his. She lied to keep him out of jail.
Shaw weakens the pipe she cuffed Mini to so that he's able to escape. She also planted a tracking device on him.
Fusco arrives just in time to save Reese and the kids from the Brotherhood gangsters. But in the confusion Malcolm sneaks off and finds Lincoln in his car. Malcolm tells him that he wants to trade his life for his sister's. He says he' doesn't have the money but will work as a corner boy if Lincoln leaves Tracy alone. Lincoln tries to drive away but Reese is standing in the road with the bag of money. Malcolm is sent off and the weaponless Reese gets in the car.
Mini goes to a laundromat and runs right into Shaw, who was waiting for him. One of the laundry bags contains a huge stash of drugs.
After they drive off Lincoln looks in the bag and finds it's almost empty. Reese says Lennox has the cash. Before Lincoln can kill Reese his phone rings with Shaw. She says if he doesn't let Reese go she'll destroy his drugs. The plan works.
On a subsequent day Reese tells Malcolm that he and Tracy have been assigned a new home. He's also hooked him up with a lawyer.
Elias and Finch meet again. Elias wants to know what has changed with Finch and how he works. Finch says to tell him the truth would put Elias in grave danger. Finch gives him the location of the Brotherhood's stash house as payment for his help.
We learn that Mini is actually Dominic. He knew Shaw was tracking him and led her to the stash so she'd have something. He and Lincoln have captured Lennox and Dominic shoots her. The two men see something in Malcolm and plan to help get his mother out of jail in order to recruit him.
