How I Met Your Mother is getting a sequel, in the form of a new series starring Hilary Duff.

The new show, ordered by Hulu, will be called How I Met Your Father and will star the actor as Sophie, a woman who tells her son how she met his father in 2021, according to Variety.

This is a storytelling setup similar to the one in the famous sitcom, in which Josh Radnor’s Ted Mosby spent nine seasons telling his two children how he’d met their mother.

Much like in the original series, Sophie’s friends are expected to play a part in the plot too.

It’s unclear how the sequel will tie into the original, if it does so at all, Variety reported citing an individual with knowledge of the project.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie,” Duff told the publication. “As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honoured and even a little nervous that [How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas] would trust me with the sequel of their baby. “

How I Met Your Mother, which also starred Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alyson Hannigan aired from 2005 to 2014 on CBS.

Duff has portrayed Kelsey Peters in TV Land’s Younger, currently in its seventh and final season.
