Cheapest superbike in India: Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R prices slashed to Rs 12.80 lakh

Kawasaki has slashed the prices of its flagship superbike, the Ninja ZX-10R to Rs 12.80 lakh, ex-showroom. The latest motorcycle to be assembled locally at it Chakan facility near Pune. The intense localization has led to Kawasaki pricing the motorcycle a lot lower than its rivals. The price cut is around Rs 6 lakh, which is the highest ever for any super-premium motorcycle in India. Also, the more exclusive ZX-10RR sits at Rs 16.10 now after Rs 5.80 lakh was slashed from its original price at around Rs 21 lakh, ex-showroom.

Considering every motorcycle manufacturer who sells their flagship motorcycle in India, prices range around Rs 19 lakh, the new prices are sure to dial up the heat quotient in the Indian super-premium motorcycle segment.

This means the ZX-10R without a doubt is currently the cheapest flagship superbike on sale in India right now. The ZX-10R is powered by a 998cc, liquid-cooled, inline 4-cylinder which generates over 200bhp and 113.5Nm of torque. The engine specs are the same for the higher priced ZX-10RR. The differences between the 10R and the 10RR include Diamond-like Coating (DLC) on the valve tappets. The engine on the RR is also capable of taking in higher-lift cams. The 10RR also gets a new updated cooling system with the stronger crankcase. The gear ratios are more track-focused alongside a bi-directional quickshifter, and Marchesini alloys shod on Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires.

In terms of rivals, the Kawasaki ZX-10R/10RR is right now the cheapest superbike in India. The motorcycle is followed by Honda's CBR1000RR Fireblade which has been priced at Rs 16.79 lakh. The next in line is the BMW S 1000 RR which is priced at Rs 18.16 lakh, ex-showroom.

Other rivals include the Suzuki GSX-R1000 at Rs 19.80 lakh, Ducati Panigale V4 at Rs 20.53 lakh, Aprilia RSV4 at Rs 20.99 lakh, Yamaha R1 at Rs 20.20 lakh, ex-showroom. One point to be noted is that the names of the rival motorcycles are all standard versions. The higher specced variants of the standard motorcycles like the BMW's HP4 Race, Yamaha R1-M et cetera, are all priced higher than the standard versions.
