‘Ugly Betty’ Revival: America Ferrera Campaigns for a Hulu Special During ATX Reunion
With shows like “Gilmore Girls” and “The Mindy Project” having been saved by streaming networks in recent years, America Ferrera is calling for a similar revival. At the ATX Television Festival yesterday, the “Ugly Betty” star reminisced with several other cast members from the former ABC show, joking at one point that “Hulu’s going to pick us up for a two-hour special.”

“That’s not true,” she clarified, “but if you tweet it…Everybody here take out your phone. Hashtag: Betty Reboot. We need a hashtag and tweet it out and then we’re going to get Hulu to buy a two-hour special.” Ferrera won Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG awards for her performance as the title character. Sahowrunner Silvio Horta continued with her pitch, adding that “Here’s the only thing I know for sure — if we were to do something, it would be a dream, but everybody on this stage would have to be involved. And Becki Newton.”

Newton played Amanda Tanen on the show, which ran for four seasons between 2006 and 2010 and amassed a cult following in the process.
