This venomous serpent may be able to kill an adult human with a single bite, but it is no match for this hungry lizard.

A particularly unfortunate tiger snake was snapped disappearing down the throat of a southern heath monitor, who seemed unaffected by the deadly poison inside its lunch.

An officer with the Department of Parks and Wildlife in Western Australia (WA) Janine Liddelow, captured this incredible photo near the town of Walpole.

It was posted it on Facebook with the caption: “Dinner time!”

The department added: "This highly venomous tiger snake didn't stand a chance when a hungry southern heath monitor came looking for something to munch on.

"Captured by our Frankland district flora officer Janine Liddelow, this shot was taken on a forest track north-east of Walpole. The southern heath monitor can be found north and south of the Swan River and in the State's far south-west.

"Growing up to 1.5m, it has a diet of birds, reptiles, small mammals, eggs and carrion - dead animal flesh."

The photo has been popular on Facebook, with one user commenting: "Breakfast, lunch and dinner for quite a few days or weeks I reckon, that's if it all fits in the tummy to start with.”

Karen Seviour joked: “Beautiful but I perhaps will not get out the car when driving in that area."
