ABC's "Castle" returned Monday night with episode 19 of the season, titled "Habeas Corpse," which saw Castle and Beckett preparing for the PBA talent show -- and, of course, a murder investigation.

Editor's note: Haven't watched yet? Be aware that there are spoilers in the copy below.

The case this week focused on the murder of Richie "The Pitbull" Falco, personal-injury attorney. Falco was killed by a rival attorney, who wanted to cash in on an auto dealership's coverup, while Falco just wanted justice. The case was not, however, the main focus in Monday's hour.

While solving Falco's murder, Caskett is preparing to go head-to-head with Ryan and Esposito in the police talent show -- which the boys have won the last two years. The only reason Castle is allowed to participate is because celebrity guest Jimmy Kimmel backed out, so the precinct wants to use Castle's name to bring attention to the show. Little does Castle know that his Mrs. has a serious case of stage fright.

Beckett goes along with rehearsing and practicing with Castle because she sees how  excited he is about doing the show. She opens up to Castle's mom, Martha, who is a stage actress, about her fears and Castle overhears the conversation. Castle made a few calls to get Kimmel back as celeb host, which means Castle was no longer needed, ultimately disqualifying him and Beckett.

Lagniappe:

  • Yes, Beckett has stage fright, but she also had another concern. She wants to become a captain of her own precinct one day, and she wants people to take her seriously and they can't do that if she's embarrassing herself in talent shows.
