Description

When teaching the elements of plot, students need to be familiar with the vocabulary so they are able to identify each part of the story. I have made a vocabulary fold able that I have my students place in their interactive notebook, so they may refer to it at any time. I have them cut the definition part out and glue it in, then they place the terms over the top, cutting on each line so they may view one term and meaning at a time. I also have a plot diagram with each part identified and what it contributes to the story. I have them put this in their interactive notebook. I also included a copy of a plot diagram with only the part labeled (ex: exposition, rising action, etc). I use this throughout our reading to check for understanding. This helps me identify if students are able to analyze their reading and construct a plot diagram for it correctly. You could also use this in literature circles.
