Fly-half hurt on night out with Sale Sharks team-mates
Later tweets: 'Ribs sore ... feel like I've been hit by a bus'

Danny Cipriani has been discharged from hospital after being hit by a double-decker bus in Leeds. The 25-year-old fly-half is understood to have been on an end-of-season night out with his Sale Sharks team-mates on Wednesday, doing a pub crawl known as the Otley Run.

Cipriani was concussed and kept in hospital overnight to undergo x-rays, his club said, adding he was "on his way home [with] bumps and bruises." He tweeted on Thursday afternoon: "Out of hospital now. Thank you for all the well wishes, means a lot. My ribs are a bit sore. Feel like I've been hit by a bus ..."

His agent, James Williamson, told the BBC that Cipriani did not remember much about the incident. "At the moment there doesn't seem to have been any serious damage done. We don't how long he will be out for. It looks like he has been a lucky boy," he said.

Police were called to the collision on Woodhouse Lane, close to the Leeds Metropolitan University campus, at 8.39pm BST. Pictures taken at the scene show Cipriani being treated by paramedics on a stretcher in front of a bus, whose entire front windscreen was damaged.

"A pedestrian suddenly ran into the road and collided with a First Bus travelling at a safe speed," a statement from the bus company read. "The police have investigated this incident and have reported that First and its driver are not at fault. We understand the pedestrian is an England rugby international, and we wish him a speedy recovery."

Tweets from Cipriani's team-mates suggest they were wearing fancy dress for the pub crawl and pictures taken with fans showed Cipriani in an all-black outfit and face paint.

Cipriani, who has seven England caps, made his full international debut against Ireland in March 2008, but lost his place when Martin Johnson was in charge of the team.

He signed for second-bottom Sale in February 2012 after leaving the Melbourne Rebels in Australia and has made 16 Premiership appearances for the club. Sale have staved off relegation and have one final game of the season, against London Wasps on 4 May.
