RIDEOUT COMMUNITY CENTER 

HAVE TO OFFER? 

• Open Mon-Fri, 8am-8pm, and Saturdays/Sundays, 9am-5pm 

• Free wireless internet service and computer lab 

• Social indoor game area: Xbox, billiards, table tennis, foosball; 

and quiet area for chess, reading, card playing and contemplating 

• Cubby Playhouse: A bright, indoor playground created especially 

for 6 year olds and younger and their caregivers, full of fun and 

engaging play activities 

• Fitness Room: Precor treadmill, exercise bikes, universal weight 

system, exercise mats 

• Gymnasium: basketball, volleyball, pickleball and a variety of 

sports equipment. Also, space available for rent.

Quiet time and homework assistance are part of the daily format 

Arts ‘n Crafts, active and passive fun-filled activities centered on weekly themes 

Enrichment science and technology are ongoing activities.

used for parks and recreation

BIKE DERBY

bicycling around Lake Tahoe. Come 

to Rideout Community Center and

All camps offer themed-week games and 

activities. Summer Camp is based at 

Skylandia Park in Lake Forest with acres of 

forest, beach, pier, and plenty of room for 

nature exploration.

Important: Daily drop-ins are accepted on

COUNSELOR IN TRAINING TA 

GRADES: 6 - 8 

The CIT Program is designed for campers 

that are interested in becoming Junior 

Counselors. CIT’s will be asked to assist 

Recreation Leaders in the day-to-day 

activities at Camp as well as watching out 

for the safety of everyone in camp. CIT’s 

will learn the techniques of implementing 

games, arts and crafts, safety procedures, 

and problem solving, as well as acquiring 

leadership skills. CIT-only trips will be on 

Tuesdays/Thursdays. They will also attend 

the entire camp field trip on Wednesdays. 

Each week CIT’s along with camp 

counselors will be responsible for planning 

the weekly culminating event. 

CIT’s will be given a program handbook on 

the first day of camp each week with 

guidelines and expectations. While CIT’s 

should be enjoying their time in camp and 

having as much fun as possible, they also 

have important responsibilities. Failure to 

follow what is outlined in the handbook 

and setting a poor example for younger 

campers may lead to dismissal from camp.

school starts! Trips include Squaw Valley 

High Camp, DL Bliss State Park, Sand 

Harbor, and an end-of-the-summer beach 

blast at Wild Island..

WATERSHED EXPLORERS 

CAMP with S.W.E.P. 

AGES: 9 -11 YRS 

Watershed Explorers will combine 

outdoor recreation and hands-on 

watershed science exploration, hiking, 

getting in creeks, collecting specimens, 

journaling, playing games and creating art. 

Each day begins from a new trailhead to 

compare and contrast the health of the 

various watersheds in the Tahoe Basin.

the Ward Creek watershed.

Take a crash course in Demolition Derby, 

design a Mighty Metropolis, challenge the 

Battle Track, build and race a Locomotive

Explore concepts in physics, mechanical 

engineering, structural engineering and 

architecture while playing with your 

favorite creations. Children will be given 

instruction, design challenges, and 

competitions appropriate to their ability 

with LEGO Technic and System 

components. This is a hands-on and 

minds-on class suitable for LEGO novices 

to “maniacs.” This class is not affiliated 

with the LEGO Group.

SCIENCE CAMP 

GRADES: 1 - 5 

Pirates are back in Tahoe! Come join us 

for a New Science Adventure, where the 

Pirate Ship meets the Space Ship. Dress up 

like a pirate every day and join in the fun 

as we study starfish, frogs, insects, rocks, 

minerals and treasure. 

That's not all, you will also get to build a 

rocket, airplane, telescope and 

kaleidoscope, planet, mega bubble and

STOP ANIMATION FILM CAMP 


This week-long camp will begin with

to animate using stop motion photography 

and Claymation. The final project will be

Through a cooperative agreement with 

Granlibakken Property Owners 

Association, TCPUD is offering this 

comprehensive Learn-to-Swim Program. 

The group lessons are based on a 

progressive teaching philosophy and follow 

the National Standards of the American 

Red Cross. 

All swimmers are evaluated the first day of 

class to ensure they are placed at approprivate 

levels. Depending on enrollment, 

levels may be combined. Registration ends 

the Friday prior to each session at 3pm.

Lil Swimmer (6 mos to 3 yrs) 

Classes encourage infants and toddlers to 

be comfortable in and around water. 

Instructors will use games and songs to

This is a collaborative program between 

the TCPUD, the Tahoe Community Sailing 

Foundation, Obexer’s Marina, and the 

Tahoe Yacht Club. The program develops 

solid sailing skills with an emphasis on 

safety and fun. Classes and clinics are 

offered to beginners through advanced 

sailors. Students learn basic water safety, 

basic knots, right-of-way rules, docking, 

jibbing, beaching, rigging and race tactics. 

Instructors are experienced sailors and US 

Sailing Certified. 

All classes are held at Obexer’s Marina 

unless otherwise noted. 

YOUTH SAILING 


Novice 

This class is for students who have never 

taken sailing before or want a skills 

refresher. Novice students learn the basics 

of water safety, knots, rigging, tacking, 

jibbing, beaching and boat care. 

Intermediate 

This class is for students who have taken 

the novice sailing class. Students will review 

basic skills and progress through improved 

safety, knots, rigging, tacking, jibbing, 

beaching and boat care. They will also 

continue to work on steering, sail trim, and 

boat handling. 

Advanced 

TA 

Students need to be very comfortable in 

the boats. They receive only brief review 

before moving on to new skills. Practice 

steering, sail trim, and boat handling and 

add new skills like racing, high-wind tactics 

and right of way. Explore other boats like 

FJs and Lasers.

NEW SENIORS CLUB 

AT RIDEOUT 

TCPUD’s Parks and Recreation 

Department received a generous grant 

from the Tahoe Truckee Community 

Foundation to launch its new Seniors 

Club at Rideout Community Center. 

The program is free of charge, and 

offers seniors a weekly activity, 2 days 

per week throughout the year. The first 

session begins on April 24th and will be 

held every Tuesday and Thursday. For 

the first program, “Tuesday is Tech 

Day,” where seniors will work at the 

computer lab and learn new computer 

skills; Thursday is game day where 

seniors participate in the designated 

game of the week. Games include 

backgammon, bridge, chess, checkers, 

cribbage, scrabble and bingo. 

Advanced registration is requested.

LAKE FOREST BEACH PARK 

End of Bristlecone Ave, off Lake Forest Rd 

Lake-front park, picnic tables and BBQs. 

Swimming, bird watching, and wind surfing. 

Limited parking. 

MARIE SLUCHAK PARK 

At the Tahoma “Y” on Pine Street. 

Operated by Tahoe Cedars Property 

Owner’s Association, park offers stage and 

seating area, children’s playground, and a 

variety of seasonal programs. 

OUTLET PARK 

At the "Y" in Tahoe City 

Full park and trail crossing. Bridge along 

the back of the dam allows visitors to 

circle the Lake Tahoe Outlet Dam in its 

entirety. Interpretative historic signage. 

Trail users can avoid Fanny Bridge 

congestion and use the trail alignment on 

the back-side of the dam. Watch the fish 

or sit and enjoy the views. 

POMIN PARK 

Off Lake Forest Rd, adjacent to 

Campground and Boat Ramp. Large 

athletic field, children’s playground, picnic 

tables. Limited parking. 


SKYLANDIA PARK & BEACH 


City. 24-acre California State Park 

operated by the TCPUD. Biking / hiking 

trails, beach, pier, swimming area. Group 

picnic area on top of bluff with Lake views, 

capacity 50.

ALONG THE TRUCKEE RIVER, 

WEST & NORTH SHORES OF 

LAKE TAHOE 

Over 19 miles of multi-use recreational 

trails are operated by TCPUD. Trails are 

open to bicyclists, joggers, strollers, 

anglers, and even horses. Please leash 

dogs. Users are urged to be tolerant and 

respectful of everyone’s mutual right to 

use the trails. Motor vehicles are strictly 

prohibited (except for authorized 

maintenance). Watch for maintenance 

workers and equipment. 

New sections of the trail system are being 

planned and constructed all the time. 

Recently completed Phase V will connect 

Grove St to the State Park Campground, 

traveling along the Lake through Tahoe 

City Marina, past the Boatworks Mall, and 

the Lighthouse Shopping Center.the 

Lighthouse Shopping Center.

GARDEN... 

Watch Your Garden Grow! 

Growing anything in Tahoe is a challenge 

even for the most experienced gardener. 

But, for those who have the desire and 

love for gardening, the rewards of growing 

your own in the mountains is extraordinary. 

Two Tahoe locals were scouting a location 

for an organic community garden in or 

near Tahoe City. Brian Kane and Lisa 

Renschen began their search for land, and 

after speaking with TCPUD they found 

space at Rideout Community Center. 

“It’s both exciting and rewarding to watch 

the garden develop and come to life,” said 

Brian as he looked out over everyone’s 

beds. 

Everyone is welcome to participate. All 

green thumb and not-so-green-thumb 

gardeners are invited to plant vegetables, 

herbs, flowers and trees. You are asked to 

keep your beds as organic as possible. 

There is still much to do to complete the 

garden, more pathways need to be made, 

trees planted, additional fencing secured, 

and the beds need to be winterized when 

the time comes. It’s an ongoing process. 

But, in the meantime, stop by Rideout 

Community Center and visit the exciting 

Tahoe City Community Garden. For
